The thing about Saddam

Headlines over the world, former Iraqi Leader, or some say dictator, was hanged after a year-long trial in Iraqi..

as cheers and joy pour in from the US and citizens of Iraqi, there are bound to be many who question the decision, the trial.. did the Iraqi Government and US have any influence on the judge's decision? Was the "trial" fair enough to be called a trial after all?

I'm no expert in international affairs, iraq nor court of law for that matter.. what i know is, that the iraqi people who are celebrating his death now are Shiites, while Saddam himself and his supporters are Sunni.. under his reign, there was unfairness and brutality, so now that he is down, the sunnis are down with him.. leaving who in power?

Iraqi national security advisor Rubaie, was quoted in CNN as saying: "He was a broken man" and "He was afraid. You could see the fear in his face."

Now, to highlight his fear before his execution, what disrespect for a dead man

The thing about path finding

It is common for people who are of marriage age to be troubled by affairs of the heart. From a guy’s perspective, the moments after their NS would be first step into adulthood and of course, reservist duties..

And so, for many who have secured their place in universities, polytechnics or ITE, education is the next step after NS

With better qualification, a man can then enter the workforce to contribute to the economy and more importantly, to earn his own keep.. this would include being able to buy housing, a car or motorbike, credit cards and so forth..

To many, only when the following are achieved would they seek the next level of life: Marriage, reasons include the male mentality that he has to provide for his family and thus before that, himself, so study as much, get a good job, be able to provide for oneself and eventually get married and start a family

For me however, I have taken a different path.. indeed, what I have mentioned in the previous paragraphs are about that, a general flow and allows for many deviations, many work and study at the same time to upgrade themselves while keeping alive, others studies for so long they have yet to taste of work even when they are in their late 20s, selected few, like scholars, would already have completed their studies before their full NS liability, and upon ORD, a steady and high paying job awaits them.. to quote a friend:
Scholars are clever until proven stupid

My path, at least by what I have planned now, would involve a full time job with part time studies coming in for at least 2 years, thereafter, a better paying job, a different environment and hopefully much better conditions to start having children

Meanwhile, the path I have chosen might be different, but at least, when I strive to achieve qualifications and in turn a better job, I have someone who is by my side and my achievements are therefore not mine alone, but a result of sharing and understanding, that I believe, is a much more meaningful way of living life

Have you chosen your path?

The thing about voting win

Never really think i'll be blogging about the local entertainment scene.. not much to blog about, especially since its not very entertaining..

Ok, the Star Awards, the annual recognition and who wins what award for the actors and actresses.. wait a mintute, so call themselves artistes now, basically becauses acting itself is not enough, you must be able to act, sing, host and dance.. wow.. product expansion

And so, in this sense, artistes who are under the Mediacrap company are duly recognised for their hardwork and so forth.. top 10 most popular males and females.. what a joke, voting by phone, which cost people money, are used to measure popularity, Project Superstar-shorter version, and lots more candidates to choose from, but still the same few who would foolishly pour their assets into the votes..

the rich and foolish will get their friends to call non-stop.. perharps exchanging thousands of hardearned cash to win themselves a trophy, and some say increment.. worth it?

The problem with this is, someone, Mr Chen W L, was also voted into the top10.. wow u say, outstanding right? won Project SS, now into top10.. but i say, what's the big deal?

I have no issues against this Chen, but i feel his winning is not justified.. he might be "skilled" in his art of singing(which i strongly disagree), but he is way behind many that is in the list.. blame who? the fans

The thing about Leadership

Can leaders be trained? Is leadership a skill that can be taught? I think not..

Leadership can be nurtured, only if one has the potential.. i believe that leadership is in the blood of a person, how, when and where this source of great power comes from, nobody knows..

lets briefly define leadership, the skill of influencing people to achieve a set result or goal.. question is, does the subject then needs to be happy in the process? If my target as a leader is to produe 10 box of Product X in 10hrs, and i make my men work for 10hrs straight to achieve that target, am i a good leader? From a management point of view, yes.. from your men point of view.. they should well be cursing you and your entire family..

So, to me, leadership is the skill to influence and drive others into achieving goals and making them feel proud of it..

Question again, can this skill can taught then? I strongly believe that the answer is NO. all the leadership talks, training sessions and lectures are bullcrap.. do they really train leadership? the answer is no.. what they are training the participants is simply planning and people management skills..

Planning can be improved when one is exposed to templates, and past planning frameworks. Tick, planning training completed..

People management: yes, you can expose yourselves to the basics of human psychology and organisational behaviour, but does that make you the prefect "people's champion?"

Leadership comes in when one is able to combine good planning and excellent man management, a good leader is not define but age, gender, race nor education level.. a good leader makes other feels good and is able to achieve goals..

So the next time you are thinking about a leadership course or leadership camp.. come on, think about it..

Leadership, its in the blood

The thing about fallen

Once again, i witness another casualty of the game.. the beautiful game, i shall not comment on the clash, nor do i doubt there was any malicious intent.. however, what disappoints me is the aftermath of the injury..

Yes, i'm disappointed, not angry, not upset, not unhappy.. just disappointed.. when a player, a friend, an opponent lays fallen on the court, is there no basic respect for the wounded? The injury might have appeared insignificant to some, but those who were really there for him could easily understand the extent of the injury, that uncontrollable tremble of the body when pain burns throughout, that pain that drives people speechless.. no word needs to be spoken, it can be felt..

yet, some metres away from the fallen, there stand a guy(not man to me).. just a guy, perharps a boy, who decided that taking practise penalty is more important, that perharps continuning the game in the shortest interval is more relevant..

so where's the compassion for a friend? no one needs love from him, but at least be sensible enough to stop the ball and wait while the main party help the fallen move out of the court..

maybe i have indeed mellowed with age that i no longer speak out the undesirable words to scorn the earth.. but somehow i feel that one day, just one fine day, that the avatar within me will rise

enough's said, just hope for an speedy recovery for the friend..
