The thing about Hari Raya
I was going to name this post "The thing about Geylang". But after some thought, thats another post for another day..hehe
Ok, back to Hari Raya, actually, i don't have much to blog about. Despite having some muslim friends and squadmates(squadmates are closer [technically]), i have not received any invitation to do house visiting.. maybe the mood has changed, maybe i am just left out.. who knows?
Geyland Serai is always busting with activities just before the end of Ramadan. I had the opportunity to shop around the area twice this year. As always, there are plenty of stores flooding the area, everything, from plastic flowers to delicious biscuits(too expensive though) to fancy dresses and sarongs to mouthwatering food.. its all there
Introducing:
Dengdeng!
Damage: $3 per 100g
Dengdeng is basically the malay version of Bak Kua, it is extremely decilious, and actually, it is not BBQed to the extend of Bak Kua, instead, the beef remains tender and juicy.. yummy!
Ramly Burger
Damage: $2.50
Tasted a few ramly burgers, from pasar malams to geylang serai to Tioman Island, the best is still from Tioman(might have something to do with the source of meat..hmmm). Still, the one at Geylang serai was good.. what i normally look for is that they will slice open the meat patty(chicken/beef) and insert things like seasoning and curry powders.. these stores normally serves better Ramly Burgers.. an all time favourite
Fried Chicken Wings
Damage: 80cents each
My love affair with chickens wings from muslim stores started in secondary school, back then, chicken wings only cost about 60-7ocents.. now its usually 1 dollar, but this particular store at Geylang Serai, identifying themselves as "Bedok North Nasi Lemak", sold each wing at only 80cents! On top of the cheaper price, the wings were deep fried but not over-done, the end result: a hard and crispy exterior and soft and quite juicy interior.. must go and find out where the store is in Bedok North.. [anyone knows? bring me there and i'll buy you a Chicken wing.. make that 2 ok?]
Finally.. i wish all muslim friends out there
A Selamat Hari Raya*
*i know i'm like 3days late, but the house visiting continues right?
I'm getting fat, but loving it.... oh no
