#417 2012 Already
I can't explain why i decide i return to write again, perhaps, when one has plenty of thoughts in his mind, he then needs an outlet and typing it out seems much easier to say it out. Saying too much of the same thing, too often, would also make one sound like a broken-recorder..
And so it goes, my last post, in 2011, was about my posting to a higher position in my company. Time flies and just one post apart, i have been once again posted out from that "Head" position to being an Executive in a separate department.. what irony.. when i signed up for this job, its JD read something along the line of managing 200-300 men, deployment, client management, security risk survey blah blah blah.. from an Officer Commanding of some 300 men, i have been posted to HQ as a Head, with 2 supervisors being my only direct reports, a 99% decrease of me:men ratio.
pardon me for squeezing a year's experience into a few paragraph but i'm not even going into the ups and down s that i had gone through in the Head post, because i was in and out in a jiffy, so now i'm kind of stuck as a Product Executive. The current job requires a not-good-with-numbers me to work with numbers on a daily basis, so that's like trying to push a circular peg into a square hole, someone will get hurt..
One monday evening, while scouting within the company for something closer to what i signed up for or at least sometime that i think i could do, i found out that there were new positions in Recruitment. Good old recruitment. Good, as in i had some experience, recruiting for the government was never easy and that was my first experience of the work world as Staff Officer back then i was serving NS, my boss then told me "i want you to be involved in everything, i don't need a staff officer to do things for me alone, i need you to help out everyone in the division and get involved as much as possible in everything. Staged set, another story for another day.
And back to that monday evening, by tues noon, i was well aware of the job scope of the new post and spoken to my potential new boss, my ex-boss and my current boss in the company (how complicated right? yes, nod with me now). The new boss wanted me, my ex-boss said go ahead and speak to your new boss and my new boss say "i'll let you go if you really want to". Excellent. Wait.
It can't be so easy right? Sadly, i'm spot on. Now into week 2 since my request for posting, only my new boss had the courtesy and gut to dial me up and basically say "you are in, we've got approval, i'm pushing to bring you in by 1 Jun" well done, so long and thanks for all the fish.. but then, more problems cropped up as they attempt to find my replacement.. from the sandy lands of Abu Dhabi to the cold tiles in the office, it seems that no one would really suitable or wanted to come to my post. A company senior said "you got to sell you post, or else, who would want to take over". I rest my case.
Peace out, wait out.
Never underestimate the importance of succession planning, or the difficultly of it.
