#420 Reconcile

Thinking stock, since i returned from Reservist and returned to the company in the new department, Day 1 was on 18 June 2012. Some 10 days or so later, new boss, new higher boss and basically a new playing field.

What happened next, my guide and probably new mentor in the department was a higher ranking fellow manager that i felt i could look up to, he shared similar concerns and had that same drive to bang down the walls of resistance to change.. and then he migrated, never to return..

In replacement, a relatively new officer who have yet to proved himself, spending a mere 3 months in a posting that i thrived for 9mths before my HQ posting, to add salt, he screwed things up sufficiently for good officers to tender and cite him as the driving factor behind their desperate move. What struck me the most was that he posting did not receive the blessing of our Commander but instead, it came from the chairman of the "CCA Club" that he was involved in, that Chairman happened to also me my new boss' boss.. oh well, kind confusing if you are still flowing.

Moving onwards, the Commander that brought me in and guided me in my days in HQ has since been posted back and in his place, a new Commander who i have little ties too, afterall, i'm way out of the BU and this chances of me going back in is probably as likely as people who are in their jobs resigning together, some 2-4 of them need to do this together for me to have a clear cut chance. This is not something to hope nor wait for. Next.

4 months in my role, a third of the year gone by, i found myself staring at the Lean Six Sigma poster on the wall: "If you cannot describe what you are doing as a process, you don't know what you are doing". Honestly, sadly, truly, i have problem describing my contribute as a process, and i struggle to make full sense of how things are run, how overly protective managers can continue to stall progress, how inexperienced and unproven candidates "slot in" and apparently thrive, how top management prefers to sugar-coat ground reality to make the truth sound less hurtful or dangerous to the very top.

That's enough ranting for a night.

Till next time then'
